Without action you will never create anything

Events of this past week have moved all of our lives. Most are completely unsure of their current direction. This alone is creating movement.

Many though mistake being in motion for taking action.

Whilst they sound similar, they are NOT the same.

When in motion, you are planning, strategising and learning. You are pulling together different strands to make something coherent and provide clarity.

However, they do not produce a result.

On the other hand, action, is the type of behaviour that will deliver your desired outcome. Without action nothing will be created.

As motion does not create results then why do we do it?

Sometimes that is because it is essential, we first plan or learn more. Though more often than not, we do it because motion allows us to feel progress is being made without running the risk of failure.

Most of us are past masters at avoiding criticism. We are not prepared to believe we could fail or to be judged publicly. With the result we tend to avoid situations where that might happen.

So we slip into motion rather than taking action. That way we seek to avoid the possibility of failure.

Motion makes you feel you are taking active steps. Though really, you are just preparing to do something.

To quote John Wooden:

“Never mistake activity for achievement.”

When preparation becomes a form of procrastination, you need to change something. You no longer want to merely be planning. You want to be practicing.

Ideas For Taking Action

Over the years I have applied many different strategies for taking action. Knowing that until I do the outcomes I am seeking will never materialise.

I have also come to realise many of our failures to take action are intentional.

We fail to do so because our unconscious mind, our Lifeguard has decided it is not safe to take action. Hence the plethora of excuses we hear as to why action has yet to be taken.

Creating a pattern of in-action rather than action taking!

The end result of which is best summmarised by this quote from Dale Carnegie:

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage.”

In my own life I had no idea I was not taking action with regard to aligning with my soul´s mission. Afterall I was the CEO of a technology company I had taken public and just completed the acquisition of a complementary business with operations in Europe and North America.

More importantly I had achieved the mark of success I believed would attract the love of my father. A belief I had established when I was seven years old and my father had not visited me when I was in hospital.

We all have defining choices to make—to live our passion or continue to follow the beliefs we have accepted for ourselves.

Mine was being called forth by intense back pain.

One afternoon, moving slowly along a country path I had walked many times before, smelling the recent rain in the air, and looking at the large, fluffy white clouds moving across the sky, my head was full of Position: Purpose; Position: Purpose; Position: Purpose.

As I began the slow walk home, my choice had been made. Action taking had commenced.

Seven Steps To Help You Take Action

To leave behind the ‘security’ of a monthly salary and the other benefits of corporate employment. Instead to take the path of my soul´s passion – using my shamanic powers to help others transform, blossom and grow.

Here are seven steps to help you take action:

  1. Actions Create Habits – which lead to success

It is important to understand that change and success is an ongoing process. You cannot just take one action, make one attempt, and call it a day. New actions that initially require a lot of effort do eventually turn into habitual patterns of behaviour.

The hardest part about taking actions towards change is actually starting. The more you repeat a new action, the more natural it becomes, though if you never start, it will never become a habit.

  1. Motivation Follows Action

Many make the fatal mistake of waiting to be motivated before they take action.

It is actually the other way round – action motivates.

Motivation will follow once you choose to take action. No matter how small the action, only then will Creation know you have made a choice and so support you.

  1. Ignore Your Vision

Often no matter how passionate we are about our vision, we do not focus on achieving it. Why, because it seems overwhelming. With the result no action is ever taken.

My suggestion is to ignore the vision and rather identify what is missing and needed to create it. Then move your focus to what can you do today to fill that gap?

Maybe it is registering a domain name, reaching out to someone who can advise you, creating an action plan for the next week. All are small steps which can be taken today.

Stating you need first to find more information and read it is just another form of procrastination.

For as Napoleon Hill wrote:

“Don’t wait. The time will never be just right.”

Take action now knowing you can make adjustments as events unfold.

  1. Focus On The How Tos, Less On The What-ifs

Should your thoughts start spinning as you think about taking action, then in your mind shout: STOP!

Step away from becoming stuck in the critical spiral of analysis paralysis.

Yes, think before you act. Overthinking though tends to become a way to try to control events you cannot control. Or to simply avoid taking action because you are afraid to do so in some way.

  1. Take Continuous Action

Once you start, continue to take action. Make sure you maintain your momentum by doing something productive related to your idea every day.

This can be as easy as scheduling time to spend 15 minutes completing a small task daily. Those small tasks will add up quickly, and help you build confidence by experiencing achievement.

  1. Eliminate Distractions

We live in a world of increasing noise. It causes distractions that prevent us from being productive and give us an excuse to procrastinate. Drown out distractions and you will gain momentum from your actions.

The simple truth is that one average idea put into action is far more valuable than 20 genius ideas that are being saved for some other day or the “right moment”.

When you have an idea or make a decision, step into the habit of taking action to bring it into creation.

  1. Always Seek The Lesson

Doubt, fear and uncertainty are the breeding ground for in-action. In doing so we are focusing on what might fail rather than succeed. Result the Universal Law of Attraction creates it.

My suggestion is to forget about being perfect. Forget about failing. Rather seek to take action quickly and then look for the lesson it provides.

Learning it builds confidence and courage. Reinforcing the habit you are building to take action.

That is how you take responsibility for your life.

My intent is to provide you with the opportunity to identify what is stopping you from accelerating your life and establishing it as you desire.

So how do you begin to accelerate your life?
