Description
Shamanism is the set of rituals and beliefs that are used to effectuate change in our world.
These include working with the Five Elements: Fire, Earth, Water, Air and Spirit.
Each Element has its own power and use, as well as acting as a symbol of an aspect of our own life.
Fire represents creative energy, inspiration, strong will and sexuality. It is traditionally associated with Yang energy and is usually represented by a candle.
Earth is associated with Nature, feeling ‘grounded’, security and material well-being and carries feminine energy. It is usually represented by flowers, crystals or stones, a potted plant or the image of a land animal.
Water signifies emotions, intuition, healing and reflecting, and it is associated with Yin energy. It is often symbolised by a chalice or cup. Seashells or ocean coral can also be used to represent Water.
Air represents knowledge and powers of the mind. It is also a symbol of courage and is related to masculine energy. It can be represented by use of natural incense, white sage, palo santo, feathers, or a bird image or totem.
Spirit is about the life force being, and the cycle of renewal and re-birth. It is often symbolised by the cauldron, signifying emergence from the womb and transformation. Other metaphors can be a mirror, crystal ball, a picture of an ancestor, or even a butterfly.
Each of the Element workbooks outlines more about the Element as well as how to work with it. There are reflection exercises to deepen your connection to the Element.
